It does this utilizing ‘shuttle blocks’ which run on the inside of the boom. The other method’s end result is the same (one line to pull on, back in the cockpit), but it adds yet even more sheaves. reef cringle, then down through a fairlead on the mast to the deck and aft via a series of (you guessed it) more sheaves, then to a clutch, and finally to the winch (gasp!). end of the boom, which will turn the line forward to another sheave at the inboard end of the boom, which will turn the line upwards to the i.b. reef cringle, down to a sheave at the o.b. One is to ‘simply’ run a line from the outboard dead-end, up through the o.b. In general, this system is configured in two ways: ![]() Single line reefing essentially means that the outboard and inboard reef cringles use one line to tuck (or haul down) both ends of the sail. Since more and more boats these days are leading the halyards aft, single line reefing has become a very popular method for reefing your mainsail. TIP: friction can easily be overcome by your winches, but be careful, because this is how things get broken! Single Line Reefing When the boat is stable again and everyone is settled in, safely, go and clean up the reef slabs. ![]() Lastly, tension the main halyard, loosen the boom lift and then sheet-on as needed. Once the reef is tucked, double check to make sure all leads are fair and take the reef line to the winch and begin to tension it adequately. Now, continue to tension the reef line (you should be able to do this without a winch) and tuck the inboard and outboard ends to the boom. If the wind is so strong that the sail won’t lower easily, make sure the halyard is still free to run and pull the reef line and/or jack lines at the luff slides to help lower both ends of the sail. Be sure to pay out enough halyard so that the reef is actually below the boom. Ensure all leads are fair, ensure the boom topping lift has been snugged-up (this is very important), release the vang and then the main sheet slightly so as to just luff the sail. Try and stay calm and think clearly about what you are doing, and what you are about to be doing. Take time to first make sure that you are safe and tethered to the boat (in position to perform the reef). When reefing, conditions are usually rough and frustrating. Today I want to talk about the difference between the two reef systems and how they should be set up.į IRST: Read below for a few thoughts on reefing procedure If you would like to order an item and can't see your location simply drop us an email to with the items you are planning on ordering and your address.Reefing or reducing a conventional/non-furling mainsail can be done by way of either a slab or a single line reef system. ![]() Two Things in This Life Are Certain: Death and Tax Loopholes There shouldn’t be anything in the section titled Schedule 1, Line 32 IRA deduction. If you did have earnings between the contribution and the conversion, then they’ll still be taxable and will show up here. In the section titled 1040 Postcard, Line 4, you should see your Roth IRA listed under IRA distributions.Īs long as you didn’t have any earnings between when you contributed to your Traditional IRA and when you did your backdoor conversion to a Roth IRA, your Taxable amount should show as being zero. Reporting a Backdoor Roth IRA in TurboTaxįirst, you need to enter the Non-Deductible Contribution made to your Traditional IRA. Let’s have a look at how to properly enter your backdoor Roth IRA conversion, so you can be sure that the figures you’re quoting are the right ones. If you don’t do it right, your numbers will probably not look right, with things like penalty charges for excess contributions showing up when they shouldn’t. TurboTax can be a bit finicky though, and if you convert your Traditional IRA into a Roth IRA, properly inputting the change is an involved process. But this can be a complicated process, which is why people use software like TurboTax to help them to keep track of their contributions and tax breaks. The earlier you start saving for your retirement, the more you’ll have to work with once you’ve removed yourself from the workforce. ![]() So basically, LEGO is telling us that a 51-year-old, Paul Rudd, looks like a 24-year-old, Tom Holland. One of the newer instances of this face print re-use is Ant-Man’s from the War Machine Buster (76124) and Spider-Man’s from the Hydro-Man Attack (76129). How does Jeremy Renner, the actor of Hawkeye, look anything like Chris Evans, who plays Captain America? Anyways, it’s meme time! Not only did they reuse a face print from characters in the same theme, but they also used Captain America’s face from the Black Panther Pursuit (76047) and plopped it into the Tanker Truck Takedown (76067) – two sets that were in the exact same wave, in the exact same movie. However, LEGO dared to go one step further. So we got a few good memes from the LEGO community: That’s not even taking into consideration that Chris Pratt is blonde, while Sebastian Stan is brown-haired. I’m no detective, but Sebastian Stan, who plays the Winter Soldier, and Chris Pratt, who plays Star Lord, look nothing alike. In both the Black Panther Pursuit (76047) and the Super Hero Airport Battle (76051), the Winter Soldier used Star Lord’s face print, from the Guardians of the Galaxy wave, who is another Marvel character, as shown below: One of the largest controversies surrounding this subject occurred in 2016, with the debut of the Captain America: Civil War wave. I think this issue is something that affects collectors, rather than children. Please LEGO, give more of our Marvel minifigures leg printing. See, if LEGO just goes that extra mile to include leg printing, I believe that my complaining regarding this theme would decrease significantly. Especially as an army builder, we should be receiving high-quality troops if LEGO wants to save costs by reproducing these figures into most sets from the wave. ![]() Just that one, small change makes a difference. It would’ve cost LEGO only a few extra cents per set to print this detail onto the minifigure’s legs. As you can see, there is clearly golden detail on its legs. The following concept-art from Avengers: Infinity War, displays different views of this character. It’s a near-perfect army builder, except for the fact that it does not have leg printing. It has quite an accurate head, torso and back printing, with a great use of the neck attachment piece, to connect the extra arms. It is an army-building troop, appearing in both, the Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: End Game line of sets. The above image is the Outrider minifigure. Out of my entire Marvel minifigure collection, one-third of it only has leg printing. Some of the times, it is done phenomenally, such as with the Iron Man minifigures. I’d like to start with the least controversial, yet the biggest issue that so many other LEGO Marvel fans have with this theme. So, without wasting any more time, here is my problem with LEGO Marvel. ![]() Fair warning, I will get a bit worked up. Saying that, I still want to fairly critique this theme, and I will be as honest as possible. What they do is extraordinary, and I do not wish at all to send hate their way. I also know that they are constrained by budgets, criteria, etc. My building skills cannot compare to their worst day. I speak from my own perspective and therefore do not represent other AFOLs, TFOLs, and children.įinally, I’d like to state that I do not mean to offend any of the LEGO Marvel team, especially the designers. I’ve invested a large amount of money and time (since 2015) into these sets, and I believe that I have developed an informed opinion. I am not a fake fan, nor do I want to see this theme fall. But before I do so, I’d like to add a few disclaimers. However, recently, especially in the past two years, I’ve seen a decline in the quality of this theme, and I’d like to express my opinion on it. From my past few articles, you’d assume that I am a LEGO Marvel fan. The title is a bit over the top, and I shouldn’t get worked up on this that much, but I need to call LEGO Marvel out. ![]() Photos Extension: Extension for Photos app (macOS 10.Macro: Record multiple actions and then play them back all at once.Photo Merge: Merge to HDR, Focus Stacking.Brushes & Tools: Draw | Scatter | Paint Brush, Paint Bucket, Mosaic Brush, Fix Red Eye, Mixer Brush, Spot Healing Brush, Liquify, Clone Stamp.Objects: 1,000+ Stickers, 240+ Figures, Image, Text, Text Warp, Magnifier, Arrow, Line, Rectangle, Rounded Rectangle, Circle, Object Transform, Object Mask. ![]() Frames: 290+ Frames, 240+ Shapes, Borders.Tiny Planet, Text Mask, Stretch, Scissor, Fisheye, Reflection, Perspective, Lens Correction, Transform, Warp, 3D Objects, 3D Planes,īrighten, Darken, Deepen, Vibrance, Clarity, Contrast, Saturation, Color Temperature, Tint, Exposure, Gamma Correction, Doge, Burn, Vivid,Ĩ0+ Films, 80+ Duotones, 100+ Light Leaks, 120+ Overlays, 40+ Old Photos, 40+ Dirt & Scratches, 40+ Textures, 20+ Lens Flares, Threadhold, Jitter, Edge, Emboss, Watercolor Pencil, Colored Pencil, Posterize, Cellophane, Newsprint, Dither, Stippling, Brush Strokes, Mosaic, Kaleidoscope, Triangles,Ĭrystallize, Frosted Glass, Stained Glass, Glass Blocks, Illusion, Motion Blur, Zoom Blur, Radial Blur, Twirl, Wave, Underwater, Filters & Effects: Magic Color, Miniature, Bloom, HDR, Surrealistic, Grayscale, Sepia, Badicoot, Black & White, Negative, Auto Levels, Auto Contrast, Sharpen, Blur,Īdd Noise, Film Grain, Reduce Noise, Despeckle, Soften Skin, Bokeh Blur, Dehaze, Shadows/Highlights, Point Color, Replace Color, White Balance, Vignette, Color Fill, Pattern Fill,ĭilate, Erode, Curves, Levels, Color Balance, Channel Mixer, Selective Color, Hue/Saturation, Graident Fill, Gradient Map, Chromatic Aberration, Opacity, Enhance Document,.It is recommended to migrate images from 4. The 1880s were the first decade in American history, with the exception of the Civil War decade, when the urban population increased more than the rural population (in absolute numbers). The decades surrounding 1900 were not only the age of industrialization in the United States, but were also the age of urbanization and immigration. Employment in the manufacturing sector expanded four-fold from 2.5 to 10 million workers from 1880 to 1920. In 1880, workers in agriculture outnumbered industrial workers three to one, but by 1920, the numbers were approximately equal. Perhaps the most consequential change of the American industrial revolution was the increasing urbanization of society and the shift of labor from farms to factories and offices ( Guest 2005). The scale of change is illustrated by the rise in the share of manufacturing horsepower generated by electrical motors from 23% in 1909 to 77% in 1929 ( Goldin and Katz 1998: 712).Įnormous gains in industrial productivity, accompanied by institutional change and much lower transportation costs, created national markets with goods and people moving in every direction. The development of commercial electricity at the end of the 19 th century allowed industries to take advantage of the labor supply in large cities. Following the technological revolutions of the early industrial age, workshops and small foundries were supplemented by large factories engaged in mass production. Many small industries, such as grain mills and sawmills, were often located in rural areas close to flowing rivers in order to power machinery. The industrial sector, as late as 1870, consisted primarily of small firms and workshops that relied on artisan technology to produce tools, furniture, building materials, and other goods for local markets ( Abramovitz and David 2000: 45). In 1880, when the agricultural frontier had largely disappeared, almost one-half of the American workers were still farmers and only one in seven workers (less than 15%) worked in manufacturing of any sort. Theses changes were the direct result of the American industrial revolution that was founded on rising investment, employment, and productivity in the manufacturing sector. By 1920, one half of northern farms had automobiles and telephones ( Olmstead and Rhode 2000: 712–713). ![]() Many of these goods, which did not even exist a few decades earlier, were manufactured, marketed, and transported through a rapidly expanding national network of rail lines and highways. ![]() This changed dramatically in the early decades of the 20 th century, as the supply and lowered costs of manufactured goods created a consumer revolution for both urban and rural households. Except for towns that were connected to railroads or water borne shipping, isolation and the costs of overland transportation meant that many rural communities were largely self sufficient in food, clothing, and many other essentials of everyday life. Prior to the American industrial revolution, most Americans were reared in largely isolated agricultural households and small towns that were linked to the external world by horse drawn wagons ( Olmstead and Rhode 2000: 711). Within the span of a few decades from the late 19 th to the early 20 th century, the United States was transformed from a predominately rural agrarian society to an industrial economy centered in large metropolitan cities. The closing of the door to mass immigration in the 1920s did lead to increased recruitment of native born workers, particularly from the South, to northern industrial cities in the middle decades of the 20 th century. Although higher wages and better working conditions might have encouraged more long-resident native-born workers to the industrial economy, the scale and pace of the American industrial revolution might well have slowed. Immigrants and their children comprised over half of manufacturing workers in 1920, and if the third generation (the grandchildren of immigrants) are included, then more than two-thirds of workers in the manufacturing sector were of recent immigrant stock. The size and selectivity of the immigrant community, as well as their disproportionate residence in large cities, meant they were the mainstay of the American industrial workforce. In this study, we measure the contribution of immigrants and their descendents to the growth and industrial transformation of the American workforce in the age of mass immigration from 1880 to 1920.
